BEATRIZ GARCIA FONTANA

Degree in Biochemistry, with 15 years of scientific experience in several national centers of excellence (Estación Experimental del Zaidín-CSIC, Instituto de Parasitología y Biomedicina López Neyra-CSIC, Hospital Universitario San Cecilio de Granada, Instituto de Salud Carlos III). I have a PhD in Clinical Medicine and Public Health from the UGR (2016), with cum laude mention and extraordinary doctoral award. Since 2017, I have developed my postdoctoral stage at CIBER of Frailty and Healthing Aging (CIBERFES) at Instituto de Salud Carlos III. I am currently a senior postdoctoral researcher Miguel Servet in the Endocrinology and Nutrition UGC at the University Hospital Clínico San Cecilio and Coordinator of the area "Precision Medicine of the Institute of Biosanitary Research of Granada (ibs.GRANADA) which encompasses 24 research groups.
I have participated in 19 competitive projects (PI in 7 of them); in 2 projects of international private companies; in 1 non-competitive research project of the Junta de Andalucía (PI) and in a project funded by a Patients Association (PI). I am co-founder of the biomedical company "Genactive Clinic & Research".
During the last 5 years I have obtained about 500,000 euros to finance my research line and for the recruitment of personnel and I have developed an intense international and translational activity through stays (Italian Institute of Genomic Medicine, Torino, Italy) and collaboration with different international groups and private companies for the development of diagnostic kits and generation of patents.
I am a member of the medical advisory committee of the Spanish Association of Hereditary Rickets and Osteomalacia (AERyOH). I have participated in more than 100 national and international congresses participating as a scientific committee and evaluator and as a moderator in national congresses and I am a member of the board of SEIOMM (2025-2028).
I am the author of 45 scientific articles (38 in the first quartile [7 in the first decile]), with preferred authorship in 33 of them.) My H index is 18, and my scientific production accumulates a total of 1430 citations.
In addition, I develop teaching activity as a professor in the Department of Cell Biology of the UGR and in the PhD programs of Clinical Medicine and Public Health, Biomedicine and Information and Communication Technologies of the UGR and I have been PSI in the Dept. of Preventive Medicine and Public Health. I am director of 9 doctoral theses (5 in progress), tutor of 8 TFM projects at the UGR and supervisor of basic and clinical pre and postdoctoral researchers. I have been invited speaker in 7 biomedical conferences and I have participated as a member of doctoral thesis tribunal, and as a reviewer and editor of several international scientific journals. I am currently "Study Coordinator" in a clinical trial for Alexion Pharmaceuticals, Inc (EU CTR: 20203-505673-32-00).
