Dr. María José Sánchez assumes the Scientific Direction of the ibs.GRANADA
Dr. María José Sánchez, scientific deputy director of strategy at ibs.GRANADA since November 2017, has assumed the acting scientific direction of this Institute that brings together health research in the province of Granada.
The Biosanitary Research Institute of Granada (ibs.GRANADA) has been configured as an integrating space for biomedical research in Granada, with a very relevant cooperative scientific production, an important recruitment of research projects and transfer of research results to the society in which it is integrated.
Currently, there are 69 multidisciplinary research groups that are part of the Institute, mainly from the Virgen de las Nieves University Hospital, San Cecilio Clinical University Hospital, the University of Granada, Granada Primary Care centers and the Andalusian School of Health Public
The Institute brings together more than 960 professionals and develops its activity in four scientific areas related to knowledge in Oncology, Epidemiology and Public Health, Precision Medicine and, Advanced Therapies and Biomedical Technologies.
By promoting biomedical, clinical and epidemiological research, and favoring translational research, the ibs.GRANADA generates transferable scientific knowledge for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of priority health problems in Andalusia.
María José Sánchez researcher in cancer
Dr. María José Sánchez Pérez has been a professor at the EASP since 2003 and director of the Granada Cancer Registry since 2009, assuming the management of the Cancer Registries in Andalusia in her line of research since 2019. She studied Medicine and received her doctorate from the University from Granada in 1996. Specialist in Microbiology and Clinical Parasitology and Expert in Epidemiology and Clinical Research and in Health Promotion from the University of Granada.
He has extensive experience in the design and development of epidemiological studies related to the aetiology, care and survival of cancer patients, having led and/or collaborated in more than 30 research projects at European, national and regional levels. The results of these projects have been reflected in more than 150 publications in the last 5 years. In addition, she is principal investigator of the PAIDI research group "Research in Public Health and Health Services" of the EASP and of a group of the CIBER of Epidemiology and Public Health (CIBERESP) and coordinator of the Program of Epidemiology and Prevention of Chronic Diseases of the same. He also coordinates the Oncology Area of ibs.GRANADA since its creation, where he also leads a research group. She is a distinguished researcher (visiting scholar) of the Department of Preventive Medicine and Public Health of the University of Granada.
Maria José Sánchez is among the best researchers in Spain with an fh index of 1,15, being one of the ten best in the area of Oncology. She is among the Spanish researchers with the greatest scientific impact in the world within the area of Oncology.
