A project of the ibs.GRANADA on stem cells and cancer is funded by the Mutua Madrileña Foundation
The selected project is about a validation of a new therapeutic tool capable of specifically destroying uterine cancer stem cells and stopping their proliferation, whose main researcher is Dr. Houria Boulaiz Tassi, has been funded at the XIV Annual Call for Aid to Scientific Research in Health, along with 18 other clinical studies on rare diseases, transplants, trauma and gynecological cancer.
The grants represent a total of 1,7 million euros that will be used to support 18 clinical studies aimed at improving medical treatments that will be developed in different research centers throughout Spain. The grants have been awarded to different research projects on rare diseases that manifest themselves in childhood, transplants, trauma and its sequelae, and gynecological cancer.
The selected projects have a minimum duration of one year and a maximum of three years and will be carried out in hospitals belonging to one of the accredited Health Research Institutes in Spain.
The decision of the Scientific Committee of the Mutua Madrileña Foundation to select the works that will receive the aid is based on criteria of scientific interest and social impact, although it is also taken into account that the study is led by researchers under 40 years of age , with the aim of boosting their professional careers. More than 140 research projects were submitted this year to this call for grants.
The selected projects will be developed by research centers belonging to 10 Spanish provinces: Madrid, Barcelona, A Coruña, Valladolid, Zaragoza, Bilbao, Seville, Valencia, Murcia and Granada. However, given the size of some projects, they involve several centers from the region itself or from other autonomous communities.
