An ibs.GRANADA researcher becomes the second Spaniard to win the Sir David Cuthberson Lecture Award””
Professor and researcher Ángel Gil Hernández, researcher of the Biochemistry of Nutrition group. Therapeutic Implications of the ibs.GRANADA and professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Granada, has been awarded the Sir David Cuthberson Lecture Award 2021, thus becoming the second Spanish researcher to achieve this recognition since 1979.
Gil, who in addition to the UGR, is a professor at several international universities, has published more than 700 publications and has received 40 national and international awards. Stanford University has recently recognized his work in the "Ranking of the World Scientists: World's Top 2% Scientists", as one of the most cited scientists in the world.
He has directed 60 Doctoral Theses, 12 Bachelor's Thesis and 17 Master's Thesis. His "Nutrition Treaty, 3rd Edition", with five volumes, published in May 2017, is the reference book for the study of nutritional sciences in all Spanish-speaking countries, as well as a global international reference for teaching in nutrition and food sciences
ESPEN (European Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition) selects every year a renowned scientist in the field of nutrition to give the Sir Cuthbertson Lecture at its annual meeting. This year, Professor Gil has been chosen, being the second Spanish researcher to be awarded this honor. His conference, which he will give in September, will deal with “Childhood obesity and cardiometabolic risk factors: New diagnostic and therapeutic approaches”.
This award has been presented every year since 1979 to outstanding scientists in recognition of their contribution to nutrition, in memory of Sir David Cuthberson, an exceptional researcher in this field and an honorary founding member of ESPEN. In particular, he made great contributions with his studies on metabolism after trauma and serious illness.
This year's meeting will be held from September 9 to 12 and should take place in Milan, but due to the health situation it will most likely take place online.
