A new generation antitumor drug is the protagonist of today's ibsGRANADA activity at Science Week
This Tuesday, November 15, we have a day full of activities on the occasion of Science Week. This time it was the turn of Maurizio Arnone and María Eugenia García Rubiño, researcher of the group TEC16-Advanced Therapies: Differentiation, Regeneration and Cancer, who have carried out an online talk with students of the 2nd year of the Baccalaureate of Sciences of the IES Virgen de Gracia entitled "Synthesis and characterization of metabolites from a new generation antitumor drug".
This talk has consisted of a brief introduction of cancer, treatment and problems that arise. Next, they have been presented with a drug in the process of development, arising from the research of Professor Juan Antonio Marchal Corrales and Professor María Eugenia García Rubiño, in addition to the advantages that this drug offers compared to other treatments. In the second part of the talk, they talked about studies carried out on this drug and the new frontiers of research that it presents, such as the development of an optimal synthetic route for the metabolites from the drug and its possible advantages. From this perspective, they have been given a generic vision of Organic and Pharmaceutical Chemistry applied to medicine.
