A virtual meeting brings together 80 experts from all over Spain who fight against the Coronavirus from their different fields.
This initiative was organized by public entities and institutions of the Junta de Andalucía such as; the San Cecilio Clinical Hospital, the Virgen de las Nieves University Hospital, the Granada Health District, the Andalusian School of Public Health and the Foundation for Biosanitary Research of Eastern Andalusia within the framework of the Granada Salud working group.
There is no time to investigate. Or maybe yes. This is of course what they tried this Friday, March 3, when 80 experts from all over Spain met in a videoconference organized by the Granada Health Technology Park (PTS), in which both health workers battling on the front line against the Coronavirus, and researchers who fight against it from their laboratories participated. It is also the second forum organized on this topic in the last two weeks.
The meeting served so that the clinical staff could present the experience lived since the origin of the health crisis, in relation to the symptoms of the patients, disease processes, treatments or the reliability of the tests. For their part, the researchers advanced their main lines of work and the difficulties they have encountered along the way, for example, availability and collection of virus samples, key elements for investigations.
One of the main conclusions, in addition to the reasons for this conference, is the exchange of information as a priority to guide scientific work and gain in efficiency and time, as a fundamental element to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Foundation for Biosanitary Research of Eastern Andalusia (FIBAO) exposed some of the 40 projects that it is developing in the hospitals and primary care centers of Granada, Almería and Jaén, that are expected to be launched shortly. For its part, the Andalusian School of Public Health highlighted a study on the prevalence and incidence of Covid-19 in the population over 65 years of age; a study of the impact of the disease and the confinement in the population with different situations and social inequalities; in addition to projects on mental health of confined people, health workers who are on the front line.
From the Biosanitary Research Institute of Granada (ibs.GRANADA), details were provided on a ongoing clinical trial based on the use of pegylated interferon (drug used in the treatment of chronic hepatitis B and chronic hepatitis C) and its effectiveness against the coronavirus. The Institute of Molecular Biology and Genetics of Valladolid proposed the development of new biomarkers that will serve to classify patients at the time of admission to the hospital.
