Challenges of innovation and transfer of biosanitary technology to society
Last October a group of experts in biosanitary innovation met to highlight the important role of the biosanitary innovation technology transfer process, from detection to transfer to society, in the biosanitary field and in research institutes . This meeting, promoted by the Innovation and Technology Transfer Unit of the Biosanitary Research Institute of Granada, has aimed to analyze the handicaps and offer solutions to the innovation process, with the aim of improving technology transfer from public / private institutions, as generators of innovation, to society.
We leave you with the recorded videos so you can enjoy the event:
How biosanitary innovation benefits and improves society
Today's healthcare system faces many challenges from the point of view of access to more effective therapies, resistance to different drugs or the issuance of more selective diagnoses, and sustainable innovation can play a crucial role in the whole process.
The sooner the most suitable innovation for each case is detected, the sooner the development of cutting-edge technologies can be that help research groups to solve these problems and have a direct effect on the patient.
For that, One of the main challenges to face is the relationship between public administration and private entities, who have knowledge that could be of great use to the health system. It is likely that only with the transfer of this type of information, physicians will end up using innovation to improve patient service.
Problems in technology transfer between public and private entities
Firstly, little is still said about the disconnect between the public and private sectors. There are specific initiatives in the organization of events where relationships are established between both parties, but they continue to be isolated cases. For this reason, it is necessary to create spaces for dialogue that generate trust between both parties, establishing common projects in the medium and long term.
En este sentido, an interactive module where the connection would be natural would be very usefulBut funding for technology development is limited. Even so, every effort is made to try to favor an approach that is still far from being produced because the work in the research centers continues to be far from the perspective of the companies.
Public health must convey the idea of innovation in development to begin to establish collaboration ties with the private sector as soon as possible, so that they develop the technology that finally reaches hospitals and, therefore, the public.
In the end, establishing a fluid bilateral communication between the two parties, is how success will be found: promoting human relationships that establish powerful links that end up bringing positions and projects closer together.
Favoring technology transfer between public and private entities
The best way to build relationships is by creating projects that serve to increase trust and interaction between people. Both the public system and the private sector have useful knowledge for the other party, but first it is necessary that there is that prior trust and relationship.
Today there are multiple instruments and tools that can serve to convey this nexus that it should not come from individuals but from entities and institutions, and thus in the end promote an increase in the level of both parties.
Public health and the business sector should reflect on what could be of use to the other. Also collaborating, working in a mixed way, sharing knowledge and, consequently, favoring innovation.
