Granada, headquarters of the Spanish Association of Statistics for Health

The University Hospitals of Granada welcome the constitution of the Spanish Association of Statistics for Health (AESA), based in the Virgen de las Nieves Hospital, whose objective is to establish collaborations between statistics professionals who develop their work in the field of health sciences, also including professionals from other related disciplines to provide quality to the statistical study of data collected in the health field and thus contribute to raising confidence in statistical methods and results.

Thematic priorities and priority lines of research of the 2013 call of the Carlos III Health Institute

According to a resolution of June 11, 2013, from the Carlos III Health Institute, grants are awarded from the Strategic Action in Health 2013-2016, from the State Research Program Oriented to the Challenges of Society, within the framework of the State Research Plan Science and Technology. The purpose of the actions regulated in this resolution is to contribute to promoting the health and well-being of citizens, as well as to develop the preventive, diagnostic, curative, rehabilitative and palliative aspects of the disease, reinforcing and increasing the international competitiveness of the R + D + i in the National Health System and companies related to the sector.

Replaces Joaquín Arenas, who has requested his release for personal reasons

The until now director of the ISCIII, Joaquín Arenas, considers that with this change the continuity of the team is maintained and a stage in the Institute that has lasted more than 15 years is closed for him, the last nine as deputy director general of Evaluation and Promotion of Research, an activity that he combined for 4 years with the general subdirectorate of Research Networks and Centers until his appointment as general director of the Institute in February 2012.

Salud Investiga Awards 2012 that recognize the scientific practice of professionals and research projects in Andalusia

The jury of the 2012 Salud Investiga Awards has issued its opinion on the research projects and professional scientific paths that have been deserving of these awards, recognition of the work of the groups and professionals of the Andalusian Public Health System who, with their work and daily effort, contribute to the development of R + D + i in Health in the Andalusian autonomous community. The distinctions are for an international cooperation project, public health in Primary Care, a research on lupus and three scientific trajectories.

Granada starts a clinical trial to manufacture artificial corneas

Andalusia begins a multicenter trial to manufacture and implant artificial corneas in patients with severe ulcers for whom there is currently no effective therapeutic alternative. This project, the first of its kind in Spain, began to be developed this February, once authorization from the Spanish Medicines Agency had been received. Five Andalusian hospitals, the University of Granada and the Regional Blood Transfusion Center and the Tissue Bank of Granada-Almería participate in the study, which is coordinated by the San Cecilio Hospital.

Andalusia, with 339 research projects and 5.541.000 euros, the third Autonomous Community that receives the most funding from Carlos III

The Carlos III Health Institute will finance this year 736 new research projects for an amount close to 68 million euros, as resolved in the 2012 call for grants, which this year exceeds 28 projects and reduces by almost 7 million the aid with respect to the previous call.
