Manuel Eduardo Muñoz Torres new Scientific Deputy Director of Training at the ibs.GRANADA
The prestigious researcher and specialist in Endocrinology and Nutrition, Dr. Manuel Muñoz Torres, has been appointed new scientific vice director of ibs.GRANADA in the past Governing Council of the Biosanitary Research Institute of Granada (ibs.GRANADA), held on May 14 2020, replacing Dr. Francisco O´Valle.
Manuel Muñoz is a specialist in Endocrinology and Nutrition and has developed his care activity at the San Cecilio Clinical University Hospital since 1986. He is Professor of Medicine at the University of Granada since 2019, always being closely linked to research, currently being coordinator of the area of Precision Medicine at ibs.GRANADA and researcher in charge of the MP20 group of biomarkers of metabolic and bone diseases of this same institute.
He leads a translational research group integrated in cooperative research networks since 2007, specifically in the Thematic Network of Cooperative Research Fragility and Aging (RETICEF) of the Carlos III Health Institute and later in a CIBER consortium of the thematic area of Fragility and Aging (CIBERFES).
It has been obtaining financing in competitive public and private calls continuously for more than 20 years from different entities and public administrations such as the Carlos III Health Institute, Ministry of Science and Innovation, Health Council of the Junta de Andalucía and Fundación Empresa-Universidad of Granada among others. The highest priority lines of research in which he is currently working are the determining mechanisms of bone fragility and vascular complications in patients with diabetes.
