The Biosanitary Research Institute of Granada (ibs.GRANADA) has organized this Friday a conference that addresses the latest advances in public health research. This meeting, promoted by the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health of the ibs.GRANADA, whose leaders are doctors Ana Mª Rivas and Basilio Gómez, aims to present the lines of work focused on public health carried out by the research groups of the Granada Institute and by other groups from the Virgen de las Nieves University Hospital, the San Cecilio University Hospital, the Granada-Metropolitan Health District, the University of Granada and the Andalusian School of Public Health.
The Conference was opened by the territorial delegate for Health and Families, Indalecio Sánchez Montesinos, and the rector of the University of Granada, Pilar Aranda; the managing director of the Granada-Metropolitan Sanitary District, Leticia Soriano; the managing director of the Andalusian School of Public Health, Blanca Fernández-Capel; the managing director of the Virgen de las Nieves University Hospital, José Francisco Guerrero; the scientific director of the ibs.GRANADA,, José Antonio López; and Ana Mª Rivas, the co-head of the Epidemiology and Public Health Area of ibs.GRANADA.
Scientists from all the institutions that make up the ibs.GRANADA have participated in this scientific meeting. In it, a multidisciplinary and comprehensive approach to public health has been carried out, with sessions distributed in three discussion tables that have dealt with primary care and health care, environmental epidemiology and complex diseases and public health.
This meeting, accredited by the Andalusian Health Quality Agency and attended by fifty professionals, has been an opportunity of the first magnitude to learn about the different scientific projects in public health carried out by the research groups of excellence of the ibs.GRANADA .
About the ibs.GRANADA
The Instituto de Investigación Biosanitaria ibs.GRANADA, is the only center accredited by the Carlos III Health Institute (ISCIII) that develops biomedical research of excellence in Granada and one of the four accredited in Andalusia by the ISCIII.
The ibs.GRANADA is structured in four Scientific Areas: Oncology, Precision Medicine, Epidemiology and Public Health and Technology and Advanced Therapies that develop an intense research activity and lead the transfer of research results to society, which are reflected in the 699 publications made in scientific journals and the 22 patents requested during 2018.
Currently, there are 68 multidisciplinary research groups that make up the Institute, from the University of Granada, the Virgen de las Nieves University Hospital, the San Cecilio University Hospital, the Andalusian School of Public Health and the Primary Care centers of the Granada-Metropolitan Health District.
The Institute brings together more than 850 professionals and develops 8 research programs in Oncology, Precision Medicine, Epidemiology and Public Health, Advanced Therapies, Medical Technology and Devices, Personalized Medicine, Predictive Medicine and Clinical Research.
The main objectives of ibs.GRANADA are to promote biomedical, clinical and epidemiological research carried out by the different groups attached to the institute and to facilitate translational research in Granada hospitals. This research activity translates into the generation of knowledge and the transfer of scientific advances towards the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of priority health problems in Andalusia.
