The latest advances in cancer research center a scientific conference organized by the Biosanitary Research Institute of Granada
In this meeting, a multidisciplinary and comprehensive approach to cancer has been carried out with sessions on epidemiology and prevention, advances in basic and translational research, and the role of digital and computational pathology for research.
The Biosanitary Research Institute of Granada (ibs.GRANADA) organizes this Friday a conference that addresses the latest advances in cancer research. This meeting, organized by the Cancer Scientific Area of the ibs.GRANADA, whose leaders are doctors María José Sánchez and José Expósito, aims to present the lines of work focused on the oncological process carried out by the institute's research groups from Granada and by other groups from the Virgen de las Nieves University Hospital, the San Cecilio University Hospital, the University of Granada and the Granada Cancer Registry of the Andalusian School of Public Health.
The Conference was opened by the territorial delegate for Health and Families, Indalecio Sánchez Montesinos, and the director of Research Centers and Institutes and Own Plan of the University of Granada, Fernando Cornet Sánchez del Águila; the director of the Andalusian Health R&I Strategy, José Antonio Lorente Acosta; the managing director of the Virgen de las Nieves University Hospital, José Francisco Guerrero Velázquez; the scientific director of the ibs.GRANADA,, José Antonio López Escámez; and the Scientific Vice Director of ibs.GRANADA and director of the Granada Cancer Registry, María José Sánchez Pérez.
Dr. Marina Pollán Santamaría, scientific director of the CIBER of Epidemiology and Public Health (CIBERESP) and director of the National Epidemiology Center of the Carlos III Health Institute, has participated in this scientific meeting, who has starred in the opening conference with an exhibition on the relationship between breast cancer and environmental factors. Marina Pollán is a principal investigator for numerous studies related to breast cancer and a member of the GEICAM breast cancer research group.
In this scientific conference, a multidisciplinary and comprehensive approach to cancer has been carried out with sessions distributed in three discussion tables that have addressed the epidemiology and prevention of cancer, advances in basic and translational research and the role of digital and computational pathology for cancer research.
This meeting, accredited by the Andalusian Health Quality Agency and attended by a hundred professionals, has been an opportunity of the first magnitude to learn about the different scientific projects in oncology carried out by the research groups of excellence of the ibs.GRANADA.

The Instituto de Investigación Biosanitaria ibs.GRANADA, is the only center accredited by the Carlos III Health Institute (ISCIII) that develops biomedical research of excellence in Granada and one of the four accredited in Andalusia by the ISCIII.

The main objectives of ibs.GRANADA are to promote biomedical, clinical and epidemiological research carried out by the different groups attached to the institute and to facilitate translational research in Granada hospitals. This research activity translates into the generation of knowledge and the transfer of scientific advances towards the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of priority health problems in Andalusia.
