Parents ask Education to recover the kitchens in the school canteens
School canteens are one of the aspects of the educational environment that most concern parents, so the movement to achieve a healthy and quality offer for their children is still alive and well.
Already from the Federation of Parents Associations of Granada Fampa Alhambra a document was sent to the Ministry with the proposal of its dining room committee to modify the current service model to opt for healthier dining rooms with management open to the Ampas (as is the case del Gómez Moreno del Albaicín) and with more variety. In short, to return to the previous model in which the kitchen in situ (own in the centers) prevailed and not the cold line of catering which is now imposed and which is highly questioned despite complying with sanitary rules.
"We want parents to be given more options, to be educational canteens with healthy food," explains the president of Fampa Alhambra, Silvia Alcalde.
Aware of this reality, of the need for changes and of demonstrating the benefits that a new model can bring and the scientifically proven adverse effects of certain current practices, Fampa Alhambra is going to organize a conference on Saturday (Healthy food at school? A pending subject) in collaboration with the Agroecological Network of Granada (RAG); the Granada scientist Nicolas Olea, professor at the UGR and scientific director of Biosanitary Research Institute, which will expose the problems for the health of children derived from the presence of toxins in food packaging; and Dr. Odile Fernández, who will talk about the importance of introducing agro-ecological products into school canteens as a way to prevent cancer. The day will be at the José Hurtado school, where there will also be an extraordinary ecommerce, where the RAG will bet on promoting the rapprochement between producers and consumers, in this case the school community.
