The EASP organizes a conference to analyze advances in immunotherapy applied to cancer
A group of professional experts in immunotherapy applied to cancer treatment has met to analyze clinical advances in immunotherapy applied to cancer within the framework of a conference organized by the Andalusian School of Public Health (EASP), in collaboration with the Comprehensive Plan Oncology in Andalusia (PIOA).
The welcoming ceremony was chaired by Isaac Túnis, Secretary General for Research, Development, and Innovation in Health of the Ministry of Health and Families, who was accompanied by Blanca Fernández-Capel, Managing Director of the EASP, among others. In his remarks, he highlighted "the importance of immunotherapy in oncology to advance the improvement and quality of life of cancer patients."
In this regard, he emphasized "the need to continue advancing research in this area" and praised the commitment and support of the Ministry of Health and Families through specific calls for proposals as well as strategic lines in general R&D&I calls.
The scientific coordinators of the meeting, Reyes Bernabé, head of the Medical Oncology section at the Virgen del Rocio University Hospital, and María José Sánchez, professor at the Andalusian School of Public Health and scientific director of ibs.GRANADA, emphasized "the need to promote the exchange of knowledge among professionals from different disciplines involved in cancer care to understand what is being done, success stories, and areas for improvement." They also emphasized "the need for biomarkers that enhance the use of these treatments in patients who need them."
Along with this, David Vicente, coordinator of the Andalusian Comprehensive Oncology Plan, stated during the conference's conclusions that "we cannot forget that in addressing cancer, research and the ongoing evaluation of healthcare practices are the only things that will help us move forward and implement new treatments without losing sight of the need for the sustainability of the healthcare system."
