The scientific director of the ibs.GRANADA María José Sánchez first place in Andalusia in the Ranking of CSIC researchers

This ranking, published by the Higher Center for Scientific Research CSIC, has 11394 researchers from Spain and foreigners in Spain

The Scientific Director of ibs.GRANADA, María José Sánchez Pérez, has obtained first place in Andalusia and thirteenth position nationally in the second edition of the Ranking of Spanish and foreign researchers working in Spain, published by the Higher Research Center Scientific (CSIC). This ranking includes data from 11,394 researchers from Spain and foreigners in the country.

In this ranking, Dr. Sánchez stands out as a leader in Andalusia. Her outstanding position at the national level reflects her exceptional contribution to research in Spain.

The classification, based on data collected during the first week of October 2023, was established using the H index, which measures the professional quality of scientists considering the relevance of their scientific production and the number of citations of each work.

 

Track record of Excellence in Cancer Research and Prevention

Dr. María José Sánchez, trained in medicine and specialized in Microbiology and Clinical Parasitology, received her doctorate from the University of Granada in 1996. She is a specialist in Microbiology and Clinical Parasitology and an Expert in Epidemiology and Clinical Research, in Health Promotion and in Bioethics from the UGR. Since then, he has played a fundamental role in epidemiological and clinical research, joining the Granada Cancer Registry of the Andalusian School of Public Health (EASP) in 1997 and which he has directed since 2009. Since 2020, he has also shared this position with the direction of the ibs.GRANADA.

With a prolific career, Dr. Sánchez has led and collaborated in more than 30 research projects at the European, national and regional levels, with results reflected in more than 150 scientific publications in the last 5 years.

In addition to her role as Principal Investigator at the CIBER of Epidemiology and Public Health, ibs.GRANADA and the PAIDI Research Group of the EASP, Dr. Sánchez coordinates important studies such as EPIC-Spain and EPIC-Granada. Her participation in the Andalusian Cancer Strategy demonstrates her commitment to public health research.

 

Recognitions and Contributions to Precision Medicine

Dr. Sánchez, internationally recognized, has been included in the list of Highly Cited Researchers in 2018, standing out in the field of Oncology. Her role as a professor in the Clinical Medicine and Public Health doctoral program at the University of Granada and her contributions to the Andalusian Personalized Precision Medicine Plan have established her as a leader in her field.

Among her numerous recognitions, Dr. Sánchez has received the Gold Medal from the province of Granada and the Gold Medal from the city of Granada, in addition to being elected Top100 Woman Leader 2023 in the category of Academics, thinkers and researchers.

With her participation in various advisory committees and her role in the 5P Precision Medicine Chair with the University of Granada and Roche Farma, Dr. María José Sánchez continues to demonstrate an exceptional commitment to research and improving public health.
