Maria José Sanchez appreciates the recognition of cancer research and recalls that more women leaders in science are needed
Last Monday at 20:00 p.m. at the Isabel la Católica Municipal Theater, the solemn delivery of the Honors and Distinctions of the city of Granada was celebrated, a recognition and distinction from the City Council to those citizens, entities and groups that stand out for their work and his defense of the city of Granada.
The Gold Medal of Merit for the city of Granada was awarded to the scientific director of ibs.GRANADA, María José Sánchez Pérez, researcher and professor at the Andalusian School of Public Health, director of the Granada Cancer Registry and a benchmark in cancer research. In her speech, she claimed the importance of increasing investment in cancer research for greater and better health and quality of life: "More research for more life," she stated at the end of her speech.
In addition to this well-deserved recognition, Maria José Sánchez received last November the Gold Medal of the province of Granada, which is part of the 2022 Honors and Distinctions awards of the Granada Provincial Council. She also, about a week ago, received the "Antonio Chamorro-Alejandro Otero Research Chair" award from the University of Granada, being one of the six awards granted by the Royal Academy of Medicine and Surgery of Eastern Andalusia and the RAMAO Foundation. .
All these awards received by the prestigious and renowned researcher Maria José Sánchez represent recognition of her career and her scientific contribution in the fight against cancer, having been the first Granada researcher in 2022 and the eighth nationally in the classification carried out by the Higher Council for Scientific Research of the researchers working in Spain with the most scientific production and most referenced by other researchers.
