Joan Carles March, new director of the Andalusian School of Public Health
Joan Carles March Cerdá has been appointed new director of the Andalusian School of Public Health, an institution, based in Granada, dependent on the Ministry of Equality, Health and Social Policies. The researcher belongs to the Biosanitary Research Institute of Granada (ibs.GRANADA) and is a member of the CIBER of Epidemiology and Public Health, within the Antonio Daponte Codina group.
Bachelor of Medicine from the Autonomous University of Barcelona and doctor of medicine with a thesis on Health inequalities, Joan Carles has been a professor at the EASP since 1989 and currently held the position of co-director of the Andalusian School for Patients. Likewise, he has a Diploma in Health from the National School of Health and a Diploma in Statistics from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, Master in Public Health and Health Administration and Specialist in Preventive Medicine and Public Health.
March Cerdá has been the first president of the management committee of the Network of Health Schools for Citizens of the Ministry of Health, Equality and Social Services and researcher in charge of the Public Health research group. He belongs to the Biosanitary Research Institute of Granada (ibs.GRANADA) leading the group B-15 Public Health in the Professional and Citizen and is a member of the CIBER of Epidemiology and Public Health.
His areas of work have been focused on Health Promotion and Public Health, where he was director for Europe of the International Union for Health Promotion and Education (1999-2001). In the field of research, he has been Research Coordinator of the Andalusian School of Public Health (1996-2001), promoter and principal investigator of the Experimental Program for the Prescription of Narcotic Drugs of Andalusia (PEPSA), the third project that was carried out in the world on the matter and where heroin was used as a medicine.
He has been an evaluator for the Health Research Fund and various national and international publications and journals, and has more than 150 articles in national and international journals to his credit. He is the author of the book “Leading with a heart” and the CLIMAP study, emotional climate in primary care.
He has been a consultant on projects for the European Union, an advisor to the Pan American Health Organization, the World Health Organization and the National Transplant Organization.
