Researchers from the Biosanitary Research Institute of Granada publish a monograph on a specific program for end-of-life care in nursing homes
The official presentation of the book, published by the Pirámide publishing house, has been held in the Salon de Grados of the Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Granada, which has been attended by various health officials and academics
Researchers from the groups Ee12-HYGIA: Care and conditioning factors in health, from the group Ee01-Vigia Surveillance of Health and Epidemiology of the Biosanitary Research Institute of Granada (ibs.GRANADA) and from the research group CTS 436 “Psychosocial and cross-cultural aspects of health and disease” among others, have published a manual entitled “NUHELP end-of-life care program in nursing homes and gerontological centers”, where a specific end-of-life care program is developed in nursing homes and gerontological centers.
The program is called NUHELP, from the acronym in English Nursing Homes End of Life Program, where both the program and the theoretical framework on which its development was based are detailed, it is the final result of the research project, financed in the call for projects of primary care of the Fundación Progreso y Salud in 2017, dependent on the Ministry of Health and Consumption of the Junta de Andalucía.
The NUHELP end-of-life care program in nursing homes has been developed based on the recommendations and quality standards of end-of-life care from organizations of recognized prestige, taking into account the specific cultural and organizational context of Spain. through a rigorous methodology and a specific theoretical framework that is detailed in this work. It is a multidisciplinary approach program, agreed upon by professionals from both residences and reference public health centers. This book describes the program's interventions, as well as practical information for their implementation, such as interview models, forms, decision algorithms, evaluation instruments and indicators, and intervention checklists.
This manuscript, written by ibs.GRANADA researchers, is an invaluable help to nursing home professionals interested in improving their care practice, as well as to health system professionals linked to these centers, managers and professionals in training who decide to specialize in the field. gerontology or palliative care.
In this study, led by Emilio Mota, a researcher from the Ee12-HYGIA group of ibs.GRANADA, and by researchers from the Universities of Granada and Jaén, 8 nursing homes for dependent elderly people have been carried out in the Granada-Metropolitan and Jaén Primary Care Health Districts. of these Districts.
In short, this ibs.GRANADA study could provide nursing staff with tools that confidently support their professional criteria based on the patient's characteristics, such as activity, mobility and skin moisture, which can be interpreted by the trained eye of a professional.

About the research group
The research group Ee12-HYGIA "Care and conditioning factors in health" of the ibs.GRANADA is made up of a group made up of nurses and teachers from Granada. His main lines of research focus on interventions and results in health care, biopsychosocial and cultural factors in health, management, health organization and translation of knowledge into clinical practice and health promotion and disease prevention. They are currently carrying out research projects financed in a competitive call on the effectiveness and cost-utility of a hospital intervention to reduce obesity and on the identification of palliative needs and complexity in complex chronic patients treated in Primary Care in Andalusia.
