Researchers from the ibs.GRANADA design a test to assess the prognosis of patients who arrive at the emergency room with digestive bleeding
Researchers from the ibs.GRANADA and belonging to the Digestive System Service of the Virgen de las Nieves University Hospital in Granada have launched a tool to evaluate the prognosis of patients who arrive at hospital emergencies with digestive bleeding.
Some 250 patients with severe gastrointestinal bleeding attend this hospital every year, of which more than 90 percent survive. With this test, these specialists can detect the probability of survival of these patients and thus prioritize their care.
Ultimately, this research work is focused on the study of mortality and the development of this tool to predict the need for surgical intervention in the event of digestive bleeding, according to the Board in a note.
This procedure is the result of a line of research from the Biosanitary Research Institute of Granada (IBS Granada), which has received several distinctions.
The Biosanitary Research Institute of Granada participates in more than 300 projects promoted by 76 research groups and is made up of more than 800 researchers from the Granada Hospitals, Primary Care, the University and the biomedical research centers.
