Researchers from Granada receive a donation for the study of Ménière's disease
The Ménière Syndrome Association (ASMES) has contributed 23.400 euros to the research group that studies this pathology and is made up of professionals from the ibs.GRANADA, GENYO and the Virgen de las Nieves and San Cecilio hospitals
Researchers from the Granada centers Ibs.GRANADA (Biosanitary Research Institute), GENYO, the Virgen de las Nieves Hospital and the San Cecilio Hospital have received a donation from the Ménière Syndrome Association (ASMES) to further study this disease. which causes the most severe form of recurrent vertigo and disabling tinnitus.
The amount, -which amounts to 23.400 euros-, will be specifically destined to the genetic analysis of familial Ménière's disease, to identify rare variants whose origin is in kinship. These cases account for almost 10% of this pathology and the results may allow the development of a genetic diagnostic panel in familial Ménière's disease.
This donation has been made possible thanks to the association's partners and sponsors who support the development of research on this pathology. The ceremony was attended by Jesús Rodríguez, member of the ASMES board of directors; Raquel Soriano, Managing Director of FIBAO; José Antonio López Escámez, scientific director of the ibs.GRANADA; and Florencio Quero, medical director of the Virgen de las Nieves University Hospital; who have highlighted the commitment of both sponsors and public institutions and researchers for the study of this disease.
This research project will be led by the Otology and Otoneurology group of the ibs.GRANADA, led by López Escámez. It is one of the most internationally recognized groups in the field of this pathology and is made up of professionals from the ibs.GRANADA, the Virgen de las Nieves University Hospital, the San Cecilio University Hospital and GENYO. This research group currently has the largest cohort of patients in the world
