ibs.GRANADA researchers coordinate a conference on molecular pathology of cancer
The Conference, which brings together more than 80 specialists, is part of the activity plan of the Chair of Precision Medicine 5P, which the Andalusian School of Public Health has together with the University of Granada and Roche Farma.
The Journey Challenges and Perspectives of Molecular Pathology in Oncology It has focused on the analysis of scientific and technological areas, both in the field of research and in diagnosis, addressing the new approaches and technologies associated with the area of molecular pathology.
At the meeting, held at the Andalusian School of Public Health (EASP), more than 80 pathological anatomy, medical oncology, and radiation oncology professionals from the Andalusian Public Health System have gathered.
The scientific coordinators, María José Sánchez, professor at EASP and scientific director of ibs.GRANADA, and María José Serrano, researcher at ibs.GRANADA, GENYO and the Oncology UGC of the Virgen de las Nieves University Hospital have highlighted the need to carry out these conferences "as a strategy to improve and update knowledge in molecular pathology, since there has been an increasing and recent development of molecular biology techniques that goes hand in hand with a greater knowledge of the genetic and molecular bases of diseases like cancer."
The Conference has been structured around two round tables, the first focused on translational research and molecular diagnosis and the second on the challenges and perspectives of molecular diagnosis in Oncology.
Regarding the challenges and perspectives, Drs. Sánchez and Serrano, highlighted that "given the great progress of molecular biology in specialties such as pathology, an effort is necessary in the training of clinical professionals and other specialties in molecular technologies, which are currently essential for the diagnosis of solid tumors”. By way of summary, they explained that: "Molecular Pathology is a fully developed subspecialty in Pathological Anatomy that, however, requires both specialized personnel and continuous updating and training, due to the continuous advances in the knowledge of the molecular bases of The diseases".
