Biosanitary Research Institute begins its journey with the involvement of 856 professionals
The university hospitals of Granada have launched the Biosanitary Research Institute of Granada (ibs.GRANADA), with the constitution this Thursday of its scientific committee. A total of 856 professionals, grouped into 81 research groups and from the Andalusian public health hospitals of the city and the University, are those who will work in this center whose objective is to allow the exchange of knowledge and the transversal connection between teams of research for the translation of the basic results to clinical practice.
The scientific areas that the institute hosts are cancer, liver, digestive and infectious diseases; endocrine and metabolic; of large devices and systems and advanced therapies and new biomedical technologies. In addition to cross-cutting areas, such as statistics and clinical epidemiology; biobanks and disease registries; clinical trials support unit; health care and technical and instrumental support.
The Biosanitary Research Institute of Granada is conceived as a multidisciplinary biomedical research space, within the complex that houses the university hospitals of Granada, public centers of high level of care, teaching and research, with the aim of carrying out competitive research on international level on the causes of the most prevalent pathologies in the population and the development of new methods of diagnosis and treatment for them.
With this objective, the Andalusian Regional Government's Department of Health and Social Welfare is committed to creating spaces for specialized biomedical research in the network, between top-level Andalusian hospitals and Andalusian universities.
In this network, hospitals constitute the basic nucleus of health research institutes, resulting from the association and joint and coordinated work of universities, public research organizations and other research centers –both public and private–.
