Granada programs more than 30 tables in Science Week 2020
The Discover Foundation, in collaboration with the main Andalusian research and dissemination entities and the support of the Economic Transformation Department, has “Coffee with Science” within the framework of this informative fortnight with 374 activities programmed in the eight Andalusian provinces, this year in modality Interactive due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The format presents science away from formalities in a clear commitment to remove the gown and technical language from researchers to present their concerns, their lines of work, their vocation and their anecdotes in an entertaining way, a tool to awaken scientific vocations and bring the knowledge that exists in each laboratory.
On this occasion, the Andalusian Science Week has started its program with a virtual "Coffee with Science", organized by the Discover Foundation to “vaccinating against misinformation in times of pandemic”. This activity has been moderated by José María Montero, director of the programs “Espacio Protegido” and “Tierra y Mar” (Canal Sur Televisión) and will be available on the YouTube and Facebook channels of the Discover Foundation for deferred viewing.
The "scientific café menu" has been transferred almost entirely to a virtual format, but maintains the thematic diversity and quality of the speakers. This year, Seville leads with 35 proposals from as many researchers the informative dose of coffee, followed by Granada, which has scheduled 32 tables for this Andalusian Science Week to reveal to about 600 people the keys to the research of 40 professionals.
Granada, protagonist of the inauguration of the Science Week, also offers the proposals of the Biosanitary Research Institute of Granada (ibs.Granada), the Andalusian School of Public Health (EASP) and the School of Arab Studies, among others. In addition, the University of Granada has designed 12 doses of "Coffee with Science" on the web, virtual proposals that can be attended online and that will unite Andalusian scientists with students of the last courses of Secondary Education (ESO) and Bachiller . This appointment will allow researchers to break down their activity, present their day-to-day and converse in plain language to publicize their lines of work.
The University of Almería (UAL) has designed a dozen proposals to teach how to use microalgae in order to achieve environmental improvement, approach archeology from the virtual world, fill the day-to-day with analytical chemistry or discover the mathematical models of our life.
In Jaén, scientists from the Geolit Park will explain the role of biomedical research in a pandemic. In addition, the University of Jaén (UJA) and the Biobank will add their proposals to present the lines of work in Jaén.
This year, in addition, Science Week will feature a “Tele Café with Science” thanks to Canal Sur Televisión. The program will be broadcast on Monday, November 9 at 21,25:XNUMX p.m. on Andalucía Televisión and will deal with the psychological consequences of the coronavirus.
