Activities
THE HIDDEN SIDE OF FOOD: A CHEMICAL VISION
This activity aims to show how food chemistry is capable of influencing different characteristics of food, such as color, acidity or flavor. This activity will show how red cabbage can be a pH indicator or how powerful a sweetener it can be.
Participants: 2nd year Baccalaureate students at IES Regina Mundi
DETECTIVE MATHEMATICS! DISCOVERING THE MYSTERIES OF DISEASES BY INTERROGING THE NUMBERS
In this talk, we will explore how statistical data analysis techniques are essential to identify the factors that cause diseases, thus helping to develop new treatments or preventive measures to combat them. You will see how mathematics becomes tools to understand and improve the health of the population, bringing the abstract world of numbers closer to real life.
Participants: Third cycle primary school students at Nuestra Señora de la Consolación School
BIOMARKERS PREDICTORS OF RESPONSE TO TREATMENT WITH BIOLOGICAL THERAPIES IN PATIENTS DIAGNOSED WITH PSORIASIS DISEASE
Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) may be possible predictive biomarkers of response to biological therapies used in patients diagnosed with psoriasis. The usefulness of these biomarkers is essential for an ideal choice of treatment for each patient, controlling the pathology, improving quality of life and reducing healthcare costs.
Participates: High School Biology students at IES Jiménez de Quesada
KNOW YOUR INTESTINAL MICROBIOTA
Talk: How plastics affect our intestinal microbiota and what implications it has on our health. (Ana López Moreno)
Visit to the center, Workshop and Experiment: Hands-on! Learn the different techniques for analyzing the intestinal microbiota. (Gracia Luque Aguilera and Pilar Ortiz Sandoval)
Date: Thursday, November 9

Location: Institute of Nutrition and Food Technology CIBM
Speakers: Ana López Moreno, Gracia Luque Aguilera and Pilar Ortiz Sandoval
Participants: Students of IES La Madraza in their 1st year of Baccalaureate
DO YOU WANT TO KNOW HOW WE WORK IN A BIOSANITARY RESEARCH LABORATORY?
Interactive competition with mobile phones answering questions about equipment (Cytometers, Confocal Microscopes, thermocyclers, etc.) that we use to carry out research in the Biosanitary Laboratories, after explaining how and when researchers use them. It will be an anonymous competition, where there will be a final winner who will be the one who gets the most questions right and answers them the fastest.
Participate: 4th year ESO students from IES La Madraza
TISSUES AND ORGANS ON DEMAND: DISCOVER OUR TISSUE ENGINEERING LABORATORY
The objective of this activity is to present the key aspects of Tissue Engineering, its applications within the field of medicine as well as the most promising results obtained by the Tissue Engineering research group. Subsequently, there will be a tour of the group's facilities where students will have the opportunity to learn about the day-to-day life of the researchers as well as the most used equipment and techniques.
Participants: IES Cartuja students from 4th year of ESO and 1st year of Baccalaureate
MY BACK HURTS, WHAT SHOULD I DO?
A detailed analysis will be carried out on how to address chronic non-specific low back pain, focusing on the recommended treatments and evaluating which of them have the most solid scientific evidence. Also, the urgent need to implement multimodal treatment programs to effectively address chronic nonspecific low back pain will be explored. As an illustrative example, the HEALTHYBACK project will be presented as an exemplary model in this context.
Date: Tuesday, November 14
Location: ORPEA Granada Residence and Day Center
Speakers: María Dolores López Fernández, Gavriella Tsiarleston and Víctor Segura Jiménez
RESEARCHING TO CURE CANCER
Talk aimed at the educational level of the students about the importance of studying the molecular bases of cancer.
Participants: Baccalaureate and Health FP students of the CES Ramón y Cajal
ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS AND OCCUPATIONAL BALANCE IN DAILY LIFE IN CHILDHOOD AND ADOLESCENCE
A brief introduction will be made about why organizational skills are important in daily life, how do they help us carry out daily activities, school activities, etc.? and will be introduced to the concept of occupational balance, why is it important to maintain balance in daily life? THE NEED TO INCORPORATE PROTEOMIC DATA WITH MASS SPECTROMETRY IN CLINICAL RESEARCH
The aim is to motivate the knowledge and use of this great methodology necessary in clinical investigations of any disease through visits to centers. The methodology will be shown first and we will then move on to the discussion and approaches of its applicability and implementation in our community.
Participants: 4th year ESO students at IES Cartuja
