The ibs.GRANADA this year participates in the European Night of Researchers with a very interesting workshop given by the Dr. Nicholas Olea, who in addition to being the Scientific Director of ibs.GRANADA, is Professor of Radiology at the University of Granada and a doctor at the University Hospital Complex of Granada.
The workshop entitled "Identification of toxic components in plastics, cosmetics and textiles", will take place on September 30, 2016 at the Paseo del Salón. Plaza del Humilladero, 10, 18005 Granada, at the SSPA Stand, which is located in the Stand area.
Three workshops of half an hour each will be held between 18:30 p.m. and 20:00 p.m. at the aforementioned stand. To know the exact location of the stand you can look at the following map
The workshop that will give the ibs.GRANADA, aims to make known through example, the inadvertent exposure to endocrine disruptors by the general population. Plastic materials used in the preparation and preservation of food, cosmetic packaging and synthetic textiles will be provided. It will show how to identify plastic components and how to read a composition label. Recommendations will be given to avoid exposure by presenting alternatives.
The study of human exposure to environmental pollutants is a priority of the European Union. Within this broad field of health and environmental research, studies on the exposure to chemical compounds with hormonal activity - endocrine disruptors - in the general population occupy a preferential place. These chemical compounds enter the human body either through food since they are common content in food packaging and processing processes, or through the skin as they are used in the composition of cosmetics and textiles. The consequences of these exposures are being studied in relation to the increase in hormone-dependent cancers - breast and prostate - the loss of fertility and the increase in obesity.
We hope you like this initiative and do not miss this very interesting workshop.
