Requirements
Basic knowledge of epidemiology
General Purpose
The course aims to motivate and train participants to start and develop research projects based on the problems posed in their daily practice. For this, instruments are offered that allow the development of a research proposal in the field of health sciences. The expected final product is the design of research protocols that meet the methodological quality requirements required for their potential funding.
Specific objectives
1.- Identify the fundamental stages of the scientific research process and its concretion in a research project.
2.- Reflect on the context concerning the material and temporal resources and the sources of financing that condition a scientific investigation.
3.- Acquire the basic skills to adequately complete the various sections of a research project, to be presented to a funding agency
Contents
1. The general framework of health research:
- The scientific method and research paradigms
2. Planning the investigation:
- The general plan of an investigation
- Utility and basic stages in the design of a research protocol
- The research problem: Criteria to take into account when choosing the research topic and its justification
- Delimitation of the problem, elaboration of the questions and definition of the objectives
3. Strategies and designs:
- How to select a methodological strategy
- Scope and study population
- Definition of the study variables
- Validity and precision of the measuring instruments. Types of errors
4. Field work:
- Planning of data collection
- Work plan and schedule
- Criteria for preparing the budget
