The inaugural conference will be given by Dr. Francisco Fernández-Avilés Díaz, Head of the Cardiology Service of the Gregorio Marañón General University Hospital in Madrid and Professor of the Complutense University
Dr. Francisco Fernández-Avilés Díaz, Head of the Cardiology Service at the Gregorio Marañón General University Hospital in Madrid and Professor at the Complutense University, will deliver the conference entitled "Cardiac regeneration therapies in perspective". Prof. Fernández Avilés is a national and international reference in translational research and cardiovascular cell therapy. He is the organizer and director of the 12 editions of the International Symposium on Stem Cell Therapy and Cardiovascular Innovations (http://www.cardiovascularcelltherapy.com/), an event that has the best world experts in this field every year.
Also attending will be Prof. Indalecio Sánchez-Montesinos, dean of the Faculty of Medicine; Prof. Nicolás Olea Serrano, director of the Biosanitary Research Institute of Granada (ibs.GRANADA), and Prof. Juan Antonio Marchal Corrales, coordinator of the Master.
Brief curriculum vitae
Francisco Fernández Avilés is a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology and the American College of Cardiology. He has belonged to the Board of Directors of the Spanish Society of Cardiology and was Editor-in-Chief of the Spanish Journal of Cardiology. He has been Editor-in-Chief and continues to be Editor of the European Heart Journal Supplements, belonging to the European Society of Cardiology, in which he has served as a member of the Executive Committee and as Vice President. He has been President of the Cardiovascular Commission of the Health Research Fund (FIS) of the Carlos III Health Institute. Since 2006 he has been the National Coordinator of the Cardiovascular Research Network (RIC) of the Carlos III Health Institute. He is also part of the Executive Committee of the Cell Therapy Network of said Institute. He has been the only expert in cardiovascular diseases of the Health Research Committee of the Seventh Framework Program of the European Union, from 2006 until the end of this program in 2012. Now he is a member of the Scientific Committee for Medical Sciences of Science Europe of the new Framework Program of the EU Horizon-2020. Since 2000 he has been a member of the National Commission for the Specialty of Cardiology (Ministry of Health).
