The ISCIII and the International Agency for Research on Cancer promote their collaboration with a series of scientific seminars
The Carlos III Health Institute (ISCIII) and the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) They are going to organize a series of online scientific seminars throughout 2022, as a starting point to promote collaboration between both entities and lay new foundations for possible new joint initiatives in the future. The ISCIII-IARC series of seminars, an initiative that the Institute carries out in collaboration with the Spanish Society of Medical Oncology (SEOM) and the Spanish Association Against Cancer, will begin this Friday the 25th with a colloquium between Christopher Belda, director of the ISCIII, and Elizabeth Weider Pass, director of the IARC.
The following seminars, which will take place throughout the year, will deal with specific thematic areas related to cancer, such as epidemiological surveillance; genomic epidemiology; nutrition and metabolism; environmental effects; epigenomics and tumor mechanisms; prevention and early detection, cancer classification, etc.
In the kick-off meeting this Friday, which will be moderated by ISCIII representatives, you can follow from this link. The director of the ISCII and the director of the IARC will speak about the strategic plans of both institutions, their lines of work and their shared objectives in cancer research; will also participate Elizabeth Orb, director general of the FAECC, and Cesar Rodriguez, vice president of SEOM. The session will close with a debate and a round of questions by the attendees.
IARC is an agency of the World Health Organization (WHO) and its goal is to foster global collaboration in cancer research. Like the ISCIII, it is multidisciplinary in nature, and combines epidemiological studies with laboratory and biostatistical investigations in order to identify the causes of cancer. The ISCIII, in addition to the specific work of the National Cancer Research Center (CNIO) and the Cancer Network Biomedical Research Center (CYBERONC), has various lines of research on oncology in several of its research centers, such as those related to cancer epidemiology, environmental factors linked to its appearance and the study of childhood, endocrine and brain tumors, among others.
