The ISCIII announces grants for COVID19 research projects

With a budget of 24 million euros, the Carlos III Health Institute has opened a call to finance projects on the new coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 and the COVID19 disease, as well as its impact on infected people. The objective is to contribute to efficient patient management or a public health response.

The deadline for submitting proposals will begin on March 19, 2020 and will remain open until the termination of the fund for COVID19 (24 million euros).

Through this call, it is expected to receive proposals in expression of interest format that promote awareness about SARS-CoV-2 and COVID19 disease as well as its impact on infected people, with the aim of contributing to efficient patient management and / or public health preparation and response. Proposals must be appropriate to the emergency situation and, therefore, that allow a implementation and immediate start-up in the National Health System, with concrete, early and timely results to the current situation. These proposals can start from currently existing activities.

The scope of these proposals may be:

a. Virological diagnostic techniques SARS-CoV-2 rapid response, industrially scalable and applicable to healthcare, with a priority orientation towards the diagnosis of the early stages of infection in humans and allowing the prediction of severity for the purposes of healthcare stratification.

b. Clinical-biological-molecular characterization of COVID19 disease, stages, prognostic stratification and complications.

c. Development of innovative therapies, new antiviral, antiseptic and disinfectant molecules against SARS-CoV-2. Antiviral resistance studies. Effectiveness of non-pharmacological, prophylactic and therapeutic interventions.

d. Characterization of the virus SARS-CoV-2, knowledge of the genetic and antigenic variation of SARS-CoV-2 as well as the immune response to the SARS-CoV2 virus and the virus-host interaction.

and. Development of Vaccines, efficacy and applicability.

f. Epidemiological surveillance of SARS-CoV-2 and molecular epidemiology: incidence of mortality and morbidity. Environmental and social factors of the spread. Risk factors and population dynamics of SARS-CoV-2 infection.

g. Socio-economic impact of COVID19 disease. Use of primary care resources, general hospital resources, and critical care resources.

h. Integrated artificial intelligence and massive data analytics oriented to the epidemiological control of the COVID19 disease.

The call does not establish limitation by the type of center or by public or private ownership. There is also no incompatibility with AES aid from previous years. Nor with other public, national or international actions. In fact, the existing financing for the project presented will be positively valued.

There are no incompatibilities of any kind.
