What is ibs.GRANADA?

El ibs.GRANADA is a Health Research Institute created on March 14, 2012, from a collaboration agreement signed between the Ministry of Health and Families of the Junta de Andalucía, University of Granada, the Andalusian Health Service and Foundation for Biosanitary Research of Eastern Andalusia – Alejandro Otero.

ibs.GRANADA consists in the collaboration between the University of Granada and the University Hospitals of Granada, reference centers of the Public Health System of the province of Granada, both for Primary Care and Hospital Care.

Its management body is the Foundation for Biosanitary Research of Eastern Andalusia – Alejandro Otero (FIBAO), created on June 12, 2006.

In the order of November 30, 2015, the Secretary of State for Research, Development and Innovation, at the proposal of the Carlos III Health Institute and the Ministry of Health of Andalusia, in accordance with Royal Decree 339/2014, of February 27, grants accreditation as a Health Research Institute to the Biosanitary Research Institute of Granada (ibs.GRANADA) for a period of 5 years.

On November 30, 2020, the Ministry of Science and Innovation, at the proposal of the Carlos III Health Institute, grants the renewal of accreditation as a health research institute to ibs.GRANADA, for a period of 5 years, after verifying compliance by ibs.GRANADA of the requirements demanded by Royal Decree 279/2016, of June 24.

Mission

Promote a multidisciplinary scientific environment in biomedicine where research projects are developed, integrating both basic and translational research groups.

Vision

The ibs.GRANADA aims to be a benchmark in scientific excellence, quality and innovation in translational research, within the fields of Biomedicine and Health Sciences, both nationally and internationally, following the model of Health Institutes recognized by the Institute of Health Carlos III.

Strategic objectives

  1. Develop a patient-oriented translational research in the areas of oncology, precision medicine, epidemiology and public health, and advanced therapies and biomedical technology that generates knowledge with an impact on the National Health System.
  2. Boost the Innovation and Transfer of knowledge aimed at improving clinical practice.
  3. Increase international dimension from ibs.GRANADA, promoting the attraction of external talent and increasing success in international funding calls.
  4. Boost the clinical research as a fundamental part of health promotion and as a driving force for the growth of research and innovation in the health centres linked to the institute (Hospitals and Primary Care).
  5. Improving institutional integration of the entities that make up the ibs.GRANADA and improve research management by promoting cooperation and collaboration/synergies between research groups of the different scientific areas.
  6. Increase support for emerging groups, primary care and care research.
  7. Boost the consolidation of the research career that favors the recruitment and retention of talent, professional development and generational change in the Institute.
  8. Position ibs.GRANADA as national and international benchmark for health research in the province of Granada.
  9. Integrate the policies of Open Science (RRI) in the research and management processes of ibs.GRANADA.
  10. To integrate across the board the gender perspective in all areas of activity of ibs.GRANADA, ensuring its alignment with state and European guidelines and promoting more equitable, inclusive research environments that are sensitive to biological and social differences between women and men.
  11. Boost the citizen participation in the generation, evaluation and transfer of scientific knowledge of ibs.GRANADA, strengthening transparency, the social relevance of research and the real impact on the health of the population.
