The Biosanitary Research Institute of Granada celebrates its third Scientific Conference on Cancer

The Conference takes place in person in the assembly hall of the Virgen de las Nieves University Hospital in Granada

The Biosanitary Research Institute of Granada (ibs.GRANADA) is holding a conference this Friday that addresses the latest advances in cancer research. This meeting, organized by the Cancer Scientific Area of ​​ibs.GRANADA, whose heads are doctors José Carlos Prados and José Expósito, aims to present the lines of work focused on the oncological process carried out by the institute's research groups Granada and by other groups from the Virgen de las Nieves University Hospital, the San Cecilio University Hospital, the University of Granada and the Granada Cancer Registry of the Andalusian School of Public Health.

The Conference was opened with a tribute to Dr. José Luis García Puche by the manager of the Virgen de las Nieves University Hospital, María Ángeles García Rescalvo, the coordinator of the Oncology Area of ​​ibs.GRANADA, José Expósito Hernández; the Head Researcher of the A15 Research Group of ibs.GRANADA and Professor of the Department of Radiology and Physical Medicine of the University of Granada, Nicolás Olea Serrano and the scientific director of ibs.GRANADA and director of the Granada Cancer Registry, María José Sánchez Perez.

In this scientific meeting, a presentation on the exhibition on diet and prevention of pancreatic cancer was presented as an opening conference, given by Dr. Esther Molina-Montes, belonging to the ibs.GRANADA epidemiology and cancer research group, group led by the aforementioned scientific director Maria José Sánchez.

In this scientific conference, a multidisciplinary and comprehensive approach to cancer has been carried out with sessions distributed in three discussion tables that have addressed very different topics such as precipitating factors of cancer and its prevention, the importance of physical exercise and diet, cell behavior tumors, etc.

This meeting, accredited by the Andalusian Agency for Healthcare Quality and attended by almost a hundred professionals, has been a first-class opportunity to learn about the different scientific projects in oncology developed by the ibs research groups of excellence.GRANADA .

 

About the ibs.GRANADA

The Instituto de Investigación Biosanitaria ibs.GRANADA, is the only center accredited by the Carlos III Health Institute (ISCIII) that develops biomedical research of excellence in Granada and one of the four accredited in Andalusia by the ISCIII.

The ibs.GRANADA is structured into four Scientific Areas: Oncology, Precision Medicine, Epidemiology and Public Health, and Advanced Technology and Therapies, which carry out intense research activity and lead the transfer of research results to society, which are reflected in the 1.078 publications made in scientific journals, which add up to a total of 5.628 impact factor points.

Currently, the Institute brings together more than 1.065 professionals and 70 multidisciplinary research groups that comprise, from the University of Granada, the Virgen de las Nieves University Hospital, the San Cecilio Clinical University Hospital, the Andalusian School of Public Health and Primary Care centers of the Granada-Metropolitan Health District.

The main objectives of ibs.GRANADA are to promote biomedical, clinical and epidemiological research carried out by the different groups attached to the institute and to facilitate translational research in Granada hospitals. This research activity translates into the generation of knowledge and the transfer of scientific advances towards the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of priority health problems in Andalusia.
