The Biosanitary Research Institute of Granada brings together more than a hundred professionals to share the latest advances in cancer research
In this meeting, a multidisciplinary and comprehensive approach to cancer has been carried out with the most prominent professionals from each of the ibs.GRANADA research groups.
The Biosanitary Research Institute of Granada (ibs.GRANADA) organizes this Thursday the second edition of a scientific conference that addresses the latest advances in cancer research. This meeting, organized by the Oncology Scientific Area of the ibs.GRANADA, whose leaders are doctors José Carlos Prados and José Expósito, aims to present recent results in the lines of work developed by the research groups of the Granada institute, highlighting the collaborations developed within the Center and disseminate them to the rest of health professionals and to the general public.
The Conference was opened by the General Secretary of R&D&i of the Ministry of Health and Families, Isaac Tunisia Fiñana, and the director of centers and institutes of the Vice-rectorate for Research and Transfer of the University of Granada, Francisco O'Valle Ravassa; the managing director of the Virgen de las Nieves University Hospital in Granada, Ángeles García Resalvo, and the Scientific Director of ibs.GRANADA, María José Sánchez Pérez.
In this scientific meeting, which was suspended last year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Josep María Borrás, coordinator of the Cancer Strategy of the National Health System and director of the Pla d'oncology of the Department, has participated. of Health of the Generalitat de Catalunya, who has held the inaugural conference with an exhibition on Oncology in the time of Covid-19.
In this scientific conference, carried out virtually with the support of the Andalusian School of Public Health, a multidisciplinary and comprehensive approach to cancer has been carried out with sessions distributed in two discussion tables that have addressed a total of 11 topics related to the process cancer treatment from very diverse perspectives, such as integrative oncology, socioeconomic inequalities in cancer, nanotechnology and immunotherapy in cancer treatment, new advances in oncogenesis and the usefulness of IncRNA / mRNA expression profiles, new chemotherapeutic agents and other aspects.
This meeting, accredited by the Andalusian Healthcare Quality Agency and attended by more than a hundred professionals, has been an opportunity of the first magnitude to learn about the different scientific projects in oncology carried out by ibs research groups of excellence. GRENADE.
About the ibs.GRANADA
The Biosanitary Research Institute, ibs.GRANADA, is the only center accredited by the Carlos III Health Institute (ISCIII) that develops biomedical research of excellence in Granada and one of the four accredited in Andalusia by the ISCIII.
The ibs.GRANADA is structured in four Scientific Areas: Oncology, Precision Medicine, Epidemiology and Public Health, and Advanced Therapies and Biomedical Technologies, which carry out intense research activity and lead the transfer of research results to society, which They are reflected in the 814 publications made in indexed scientific journals, with a total impact factor of 3.542 points (more than 40% of the publications in the best journals in the world) and the 27 patents applied for during 2020.
Currently, there are 70 multidisciplinary research groups that make up the Institute, from the University of Granada, the Virgen de las Nieves University Hospital, the San Cecilio Clinical University Hospital, the Andalusian School of Public Health and the health centers of Primary Care.
The Institute brings together more than 983 professionals and develops 8 research programs in Oncology, Precision Medicine, Epidemiology and Public Health, Advanced Therapies, Medical Technology and Devices, Personalized Medicine, Predictive Medicine and Clinical Research.
The main objectives of the ibs.GRANADA are to promote biomedical, clinical and epidemiological research carried out by the different groups attached to the institute and to facilitate translational research in Granada hospitals. This research activity translates into the generation of knowledge and the transfer of scientific advances towards the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of priority health problems in Andalusia.
