The Biosanitary Research Institute of Granada holds a conference on the approach to colorectal cancer
The Conference was held in person in the auditorium of the Virgen de las Nieves University Hospital in Granada
The Biosanitary Research Institute of Granada (ibs.GRANADA) has held this Wednesday a conference that deals with strategies in the approach to colorectal cancer. This meeting, organized by María José Sánchez Pérez, scientific director of ibs.GRANADA and director of the Granada Cancer Registry, and Encarnación González Flores, head of research at the Virgen de las Nieves University Hospital and member of the A-13 Personalized Oncology group of ibs.GRANADA, aims to present the lines of work focused on colorectal cancer carried out by the research groups of the Granada Institute and by other groups from the Virgen de las Nieves University Hospital, the San Cecilio University Hospital, the University of Granada and the Andalusian School of Public Health.
The conference was inaugurated by the provincial health and consumption delegate, Indalecio Sánchez-Montesinos García, the manager of the Virgen de las Nieves University Hospital, María Ángeles García Rescalvo, the managing director of the San Cecilio Clinical University Hospital, Manuel Reyes Nadal; the scientific director of ibs.GRANADA and director of the Cancer Registry of Granada, María José Sánchez Pérez and the scientific coordinator of the event and head of research at the Virgen de las Nieves University Hospital, Encarnación González Flores.
In this scientific conference, a multidisciplinary and comprehensive approach to colorectal cancer has been carried out with sessions distributed in two discussion tables, the first on Epidemiology, Prevention and New diagnostic techniques in Colorectal Cancer and the second on Advances in the treatment of Colorectal cancer: towards Personalized and Precision Medicine, dealing with cutting-edge topics such as the new diagnostic and therapeutic techniques offered by nuclear medicine and innovative therapies such as immunotherapy in the treatment of disease.

The Instituto de Investigación Biosanitaria ibs.GRANADA, is the only center accredited by the Carlos III Health Institute (ISCIII) that develops biomedical research of excellence in Granada and one of the four accredited in Andalusia by the ISCIII.
The ibs.GRANADA is structured in four Scientific Areas: Oncology, Precision Medicine, Epidemiology and Public Health and Technology and Advanced Therapies that develop an intense research activity and lead the transfer of research results to society, which are reflected in the 1.082 publications made in scientific journals, totaling 5.719 impact factor points, as well as 30 patents applied for during 2021.
Currently, the Institute brings together more than 1.100 professionals and 71 multidisciplinary research groups that make up, from the University of Granada, the Virgen de las Nieves University Hospital, the San Cecilio Clinical University Hospital, the Andalusian School of Public Health and Primary Care Centers in Granada.
The main objectives of ibs.GRANADA are to promote biomedical, clinical and epidemiological research carried out by the different groups attached to the institute and to facilitate translational research in Granada hospitals. This research activity translates into the generation of knowledge and the transfer of scientific advances towards the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of priority health problems in Andalusia.
