The Granada Biosanitary Research Institute celebrates its fourth scientific conference on cancer
The conferences have been held in person in the assembly hall of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Granada
The Biosanitary Research Institute of Granada (ibs.GRANADA) has held this Thursday the fourth edition of a conference that addresses the latest advances in cancer research. This meeting, organized by the Cancer Scientific Area of ibs.GRANADA, whose heads are doctors José Carlos Prados and José Expósito, aims to present the lines of work focused on the oncological process carried out by the research groups of the institute from Granada and by other groups from the Virgen de las Nieves University Hospital, the San Cecilio University Hospital, the University of Granada and the Granada Cancer Registry of the Andalusian School of Public Health.
The conference was inaugurated by the managing director of the San Cecilio Clinical University Hospital, Manuel Reyes Nadal; the deputy medical director of the Virgen de las Nieves University Hospital, Lucía Castillo; the director of centers and institutes of the vice-rector for research and transfer of the University of Granada; Francisco O'Valle Ravassa and the scientific director of ibs.GRANADA and director of the Granada Cancer Registry, María José Sánchez Pérez.
The head of the oncology service of the Virgen Macarena University Hospital in Seville, Luis de la Cruz Merino, has participated in this scientific meeting, who has given the inaugural conference on the importance of immunotherapy as a new pillar in cancer treatment.
In this scientific conference, a multidisciplinary and comprehensive approach to cancer has been carried out with sessions distributed over three discussion tables that have addressed very different topics such as the importance of prevention and precision cancer therapy.
This meeting, accredited by the Andalusian Agency for Healthcare Quality and attended by almost a hundred professionals, has been a first-class opportunity to learn about the different scientific projects in oncology developed by the ibs research groups of excellence.GRANADA .
About the ibs.GRANADA
The Instituto de Investigación Biosanitaria ibs.GRANADA, is the only center accredited by the Carlos III Health Institute (ISCIII) that develops biomedical research of excellence in Granada and one of the four accredited in Andalusia by the ISCIII.
The ibs.GRANADA is structured in four Scientific Areas: Oncology, Precision Medicine, Epidemiology and Public Health and Technology and Advanced Therapies that develop an intense research activity and lead the transfer of research results to society, which are reflected in the 1.082 publications made in scientific journals, totaling 5.719 impact factor points, as well as 30 patents applied for during 2021.
Currently, the Institute brings together more than 1.100 professionals and 71 multidisciplinary research groups that make up, from the University of Granada, the Virgen de las Nieves University Hospital, the San Cecilio Clinical University Hospital, the Andalusian School of Public Health and Primary Care Centers in Granada.
The main objectives of ibs.GRANADA are to promote biomedical, clinical and epidemiological research carried out by the different groups attached to the institute and to facilitate translational research in Granada hospitals. This research activity translates into the generation of knowledge and the transfer of scientific advances towards the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of priority health problems in Andalusia.
