The ibs.GRANADA and FIBAO approve the appointment of its scientific director and its manager
The Biosanitary Research Institute of Granada, ibs.GRANADA and the Andalusian Public Foundation for Biosanitary Research in Eastern Andalusia-Alejandro Otero, FIBAO, have ratified the appointments for the scientific direction and the management direction of both institutions.
Specifically, María José Sánchez Pérez assumes the scientific direction of the ibs.GRANADA, to which she has been linked since its creation. She has been a professor at the Andalusian School of Public Health since 2003, where she also coordinates the PAIDI CTS-177 group on Research in Public Health and Health Services. She is also the principal investigator of a research group of excellence at CIBERESP and coordinator of the 'Epidemiology and control of chronic diseases' program. She is a distinguished researcher at the Department of Preventive Medicine and Public Health of the University of Granada
Sánchez Pérez has extensive experience in the design and development of epidemiological studies related to the etiology, care and survival of cancer patients, having participated in more than 30 research projects at European, national and regional levels. The results of these projects have been reflected in more than 150 publications in the last 5 years. He has also coordinated the Oncology Area of the ibs.GRANADA since its creation, where he also leads a research group.
For its part, the management direction of FIBAO and ibs.GRANADA will be carried out by Sarah Biel Gleeson. She has a degree in Pharmacy and Food Science and Technology, as well as an Executive MBA and a specialist in international project management. Biel has an experience of more than 15 years in the management of R + D + i in the environment of the Public Health System of Andalusia. For more than a decade he has been responsible for the Area of Project Management and Research Methodology at FIBAO and ibs.GRANADA. In addition, for five years, he has directed the OTRI of the foundation and has managed a large number of independent clinical trials and R & D & I transfer projects.
From his new professional stage, Biel has stated that he wants “a future that always generates common spaces of understanding, to achieve the objectives and goals set by the Board of Trustees of the Foundation and the Governing Council of ibs.GRANADA, in collaboration with the business world and institutional in the biosanitary area”.
Reference of R + D + i in Granada
Both institutions are benchmarks in the development of R + D + i in Andalusia. FIBAO offers its research management and support services in the provinces of Almería, Granada and Jaén. This public foundation has a portfolio of services that covers the entire value chain of biomedical research: from discovery to its application in improving people's health; with the aspiration of being a facilitator and support agent for biomedical research groups, as well as a vehicle for valuing and transferring research results to industry and society.
The ibs.GRANADA, for its part, brings together more than 962 professionals from the Virgen de las Nieves University Hospitals and the San Cecilio Clinic, the University of Granada and the Andalusian School of Public Health, developing their activity in four scientific areas related to the knowledge in Oncology, Epidemiology and Public Health, Precision Medicine and, Advanced Therapies and Biomedical Technologies; and has recently been accredited by the Carlos III Health Institute for the next five years.
