The ibs.GRANADA adheres to the Science in Parliament project
The ibs.GRANADA adheres to the Science in Parliament project, which is an independent citizen initiative that aims to make science and scientific knowledge increasingly important in the formulation of political proposals.
#ScienceenelParliament wants to promote a political culture close to science and promote scientific activity focused on the needs of society. To achieve this end, it is important that policy makers and the science, technology and innovation sector in Spain maintain regular contacts that facilitate the effective use of science for making informed political decisions.
Following the example of the Science Meets Parliament program of the European Parliament, Australian, United Kingdom, etc., the first proposal of #ScienceenelParliament consists of organizing a program of meetings between different sectors of science, technology and innovation with parliamentary interlocutors.
#ScienceenelParliament It will be inaugurated with a two-day event, which will take place in the congress of deputies in the 4th quarter of 2018, which will allow parliamentarians and their work teams to interact with professionals from the science, technology and innovation sector . Specifically, the event proposes the following activities:
- Day 1: Attendees, both from the scientific and political sectors, will interact with leaders in politics; media; Science and Technology; and lawyers in courts. They will learn about their specific approaches through discussion panels, presentations and workshops on previously established topics of mutual interest. The first day will conclude with a relaxed meeting to strengthen social relationships and be an informal and dynamic forum for the exchange of ideas and impressions in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.
- Day 2: People from the science sector will meet with parliamentarians and their work teams from across the political spectrum in small discussion groups. In them, both young researchers and established scientists will have the opportunity to share their views with politicians regarding the role of science in legislative development.
This event, which will be held annually, will serve as a starting point to consolidate, in subsequent actions, the interaction and joint work between parliamentarians and professionals in the innovation sector at various stages of their professional careers.
#ScienceenelParliament is a completely independent initiative that emerged on January 1, 2018 driven by the desire for renewal that, despite its short journey, has already obtained the support of more than 100 scientific institutions, as well as business associations and the media, demonstrating the high interest and involvement of various civil society agents, as well as representatives of the various political sensitivities represented in parliament.
