The ibs.GRANADA closes its Science Week 2020 with an activity on artificial skin
A group of students from the IES Albayzin in Granada had the opportunity this morning to virtually visit the research laboratory where the group of Tissue Engineering TEC-03 of the ibs.GRANADA, located in the Histology department of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Granada.
The activity began with a talk-presentation, by Cristina Blanco's hand, where the principles and basic concepts of tissue engineering and the main achievements reached to date by the research group have been shown.
Subsequently, several members of the research team have carried out, with a mobile device, a virtual route through the different spaces of the laboratories of the Tissue Engineering Group of the ibs.GRANADA. Some of the routine activities carried out in this type of laboratory have been shown.
During the visit they have been describing and showing each of the steps for the manufacture of artificial fabrics. The students have been able to see in person what the artificial fabric is like and the different techniques used to make it. One of those that has attracted the most attention has been the famous PCR. They have had the opportunity to see what the PCR machine is like, accompanied by a very affordable and detailed explanation of how this technique works, using COVID19 as an example.
Dr. Miguel Alaminos, the main co-investigator of this group, has been the one who has organized this precious and pedagogical visit, bringing science, with a very accessible and attractive language, everything related to the manufacture of artificial tissues and their clinical use in different pathologies such as large burns or cancer.
