The ibs.GRANADA presents its achievements and 2024 Report to its Scientific Council, and consolidates its own research support plan.
The Granada Biosanitary Research Institute (ibs.GRANADA) held its Scientific Council meeting on Monday, June 30, where the main results achieved during 2024 were presented to the researchers responsible for the 74 groups that make up the Institute.
The meeting was opened by Dr. Indalecio Sánchez-Montesinos García, regional delegate of the Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs of the Andalusian Regional Government in Granada; Dr. Eduardo Redondo, vice dean of the Faculty of Medicine; Dr. Mónica Ruiz Alba, deputy medical director of the San Cecilio University Clinical Hospital; Ms. Mercedes Villegas, director of Nursing at the Virgen de las Nieves University Hospital; and Dr. María José Sánchez, scientific director of ibs.GRANADA.
During the meeting, the Scientific Directorate presented the performance report for the first half of 2025, as well as the 2024 Activity Report, highlighting the Institute's consolidation as a benchmark in translational biomedical research and its sustained growth in scientific output and knowledge generation.
Among the most significant milestones of 2024 are the publication of 1.135 articles in indexed scientific journals, accumulating a total impact factor of 5.650 points. Seventy-one percent of these publications were produced in collaboration with national and international institutions, reflecting the Institute's strong presence and networking capacity. Furthermore, 71% of the articles were published in open access, in line with ibs.GRANADA's commitment to the principles of open science and social responsibility. Other notable achievements include the filing of 73 patents and the defense of 25 doctoral theses, figures that reflect the research dynamism and commitment to training new scientific talent.
One of the most significant advances in 2024 has been the consolidation of the ibs.GRANADA's Own Plan, which in 2024 promoted four strategic research support programs aimed at promoting the mobility of research staff, scientific visibility, knowledge transfer, and the consolidation of research groups. In total, the Own Plan mobilized more than €100.000, thus strengthening the Institute's research capacity and its impact on health innovation in the biomedical field in Granada.
Finally, the ibs.GRANADA's commitment to scientific dissemination and active collaboration with patient associations in Granada was reiterated, reinforcing its role as a key institution for the advancement of biomedical knowledge and improving the health of the population.
