The ibs.GRANADA organizes its third Symposium on Precision Medicine at the San Cecilio Clinical University Hospital
A scientific conference addresses the main advances in precision medicine research of numerous multidisciplinary research groups from Granada
The Biosanitary Research Institute of Granada (ibs.GRANADA) has organized this Wednesday, the III Precision Medicine Symposium that has been held in the assembly hall of the San Cecilio Clinical University Hospital of Granada to address the latest advances in this area of research.
The Symposium has had 12 presentations made by researchers from the Precision Medicine area of ibs.GRANADA coordinated by doctors Manuel Muñoz and professor Julio Gálvez. In the course of it, issues of great interest have been addressed, such as molecular mechanisms in diet and health or the role of olive oil in lupus erythematosus, distributed in two tables throughout the morning.
The event was inaugurated by Francisco Guerrero, deputy medical director of the San Cecilio Clinical University Hospital, Manuel Liñán, medical director of the Virgen de las Nieves University Hospital, Francisco O'Valle, director of centers and institutes of the Office of the Vice President for Research and Transfer of the University from Granada, Manuel Muñoz, coordinator of the precision medicine area of the ibs.GRANADA and the scientific director of the Ibs.GRANADA, María José Sánchez.
In the opening speech, Enrique de Álava, director of the Andalusian Strategy for Personalized and Precision Medicine, advanced the steps being taken in Andalusia to promote Precision Medicine in the public health system. In a very informative and accessible way, he has transmitted the essence, definition and challenges of precision medicine and its importance to improve and personalize medical treatments for numerous diseases, especially cancer.
The precision medicine area is one of the main bastions of the Ibs.GRANADA with 66 currently active research projects and 44 research grants awarded in 2021. Currently, it has 25 research groups and works in three main lines: diagnosis based in omic data, biomarkers for clinical diagnosis, disease mechanism and development of new therapies.
Its creation arises from the need to address the challenge of personalized medicine and to transfer the results of research to practical applications that benefit health. It is about adapting medicine to the characteristics of each person, offering personalized responses in medical interventions.
About the ibs.GRANADA
The Instituto de Investigación Biosanitaria ibs.GRANADA, is the only center accredited by the Carlos III Health Institute (ISCIII) that develops biomedical research of excellence in Granada and one of the four accredited in Andalusia by the ISCIII.
The ibs.GRANADA is structured into four Scientific Areas: Oncology, Precision Medicine, Epidemiology and Public Health, and Advanced Technology and Therapies, which carry out intense research activity and lead the transfer of research results to society, which are reflected in the 1.082 publications made in scientific journals during 2021, which add up to a total of 5.719 impact factor points.
Currently, the Institute brings together more than 1.091 professionals and 71 multidisciplinary research groups from the University of Granada, the Virgen de las Nieves University Hospital, the San Cecilio Clinical University Hospital, the Andalusian School of Public Health and the Primary Care of the Granada-Metropolitan Health District.
The primary objectives of the ibs.GRANADA go through promoting biomedical, clinical and epidemiological research carried out by the different groups attached to the institute and facilitating translational research in hospitals in Granada. This research activity translates into the generation of knowledge and the transfer of scientific advances towards the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of priority health problems in Andalusia.
