The ibs.GRANADA organizes its fourth Precision Medicine symposium at the San Cecilio Clinical University Hospital
The scientific conference has addressed the main advances in research in precision medicine of numerous multidisciplinary research groups from Granada
The Biosanitary Research Institute of Granada (ibs.GRANADA) has successfully held its fourth Precision Medicine Symposium at the San Cecilio Clinical University Hospital in Granada. This scientific event, which brought together more than fifty attendees, brought together leading multidisciplinary research groups from the region to address the most recent advances in the field of precision medicine.
The IV Precision Medicine Symposium, coordinated by professors Manuel Muñoz and Julio Gálvez, stood out for the 13 presentations offered by researchers from ibs.GRANADA. During the day, topics of great interest were discussed such as new therapeutic approaches for systemic diseases, strategies to combat resistance to chemotherapy and the modifiable role of the intestinal microbiota in the risk of cancer or the influence of specific bone proteins on calcification. vascular. These presentations were distributed over two discussion tables throughout the morning.
The inauguration of the event was attended by prominent authorities, including Indalecio Sánchez-Montesinos, provincial delegate of Health and Consumer Affairs, Manuel Reyes, managing director of the San Cecilio Clinical University Hospital, María Ángeles García Rescalvo, managing director of the Virgen de las Nieves, María del Carmen Aguilar Luzón, director of the Health and Wellbeing Secretariat of the University Community of the University of Granada and Jose Antonio Castilla Alcalá, deputy to the scientific direction of ibs.GRANADA.
The inaugural conference was given by Professor Francisco Tinahones Madueño, professor at the University of Malaga, head of the Endocrinology and Nutrition service at the Virgen de la Victoria University Hospital in Malaga, and scientific director of the Biomedical Research Institute of Malaga. In his speech, Professor Tinahones highlighted the challenges that precision medicine faces in the treatment of diabetes.
The Precision Medicine area is one of the fundamental pillars of ibs.GRANADA, with 68 research projects currently underway and 74 research grants awarded in 2022. The institute currently has 25 research groups and focuses on three areas main ones: diagnosis based on omics data, biomarkers for clinical diagnosis, disease mechanisms and development of new therapies. Its creation responds to the need to address the challenge of “personalized medicine” and to translate research results into practical applications that benefit health. The goal is to adapt medicine to the individual needs of each patient, providing personalized medical interventions.
The IV Precision Medicine Symposium organized by ibs.GRANADA represents a significant step in promoting cutting-edge medical research and moving towards a future of more personalized and effective medical care.
About the ibs.GRANADA
The Instituto de Investigación Biosanitaria ibs.GRANADA, is the only center accredited by the Carlos III Health Institute (ISCIII) that develops biomedical research of excellence in Granada and one of the four accredited in Andalusia by the ISCIII.
The ibs.GRANADA is structured into four Scientific Areas: Oncology, Precision Medicine, Epidemiology and Public Health and Technology and Advanced Therapies that develop intense research activity and lead the transfer of research results to society, which are reflected in the 1.063 publications made in scientific journals, which add up to a total of 6.528 impact factor points in 2022.
Currently, the Institute brings together more than 1.100 professionals and 70 multidisciplinary research groups that make up, from the University of Granada, the Virgen de las Nieves University Hospital, the San Cecilio Clinical University Hospital, the Andalusian School of Public Health and Primary Care Centers in Granada.
The main objectives of ibs.GRANADA are to promote biomedical, clinical and epidemiological research carried out by the different groups attached to the institute and to facilitate translational research in Granada hospitals. This research activity translates into the generation of knowledge and the transfer of scientific advances towards the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of priority health problems in Andalusia.
