The ibs.GRANADA promotes research careers with conferences for young researchers and health professionals

The conferences were held on June 10 and 11 at the Virgen de las Nieves and Clínico San Cecilio de Granada university hospitals respectively.

The Biosanitary Research Institute of Granada (ibs.GRANADA) has organized a conference for predoctoral researchers at the Virgen de las Nieves University Hospital (HUVN) and the San Cecilio Clinical University Hospital (HUCSC), in which a large number have gathered of young researchers and health professionals to learn the steps to follow to start their research career.

The first day took place on June 10 at the HUVN, and began with a warm welcome from Dr. María José Sánchez, scientific director of ibs.GRANADA, and Dr. Encarna González-Flores, head of research at the HUVN. During the opening, the Institute's achievements and the importance of promoting research in the health field, both in hospitals and primary care, were highlighted.

Dr. María José Sánchez presented an overview of ibs.GRANADA, followed by a talk by Mr. Pedro Alarcón, head of Studies at HUVN, on the integration of research in the training of Internal Resident Specialists.

The highlight of the day was a panel discussion entitled "The Reality of the Healthcare Research Career," moderated by Dr. Encarna González-Flores. Several researchers shared their experiences and perspectives, including Dr. David Sánchez Porras, postdoctoral researcher at the University of Granada; Dr. Clara Ureña, MIR (Resident Researcher in Dermatology) at the HUVN; Dr. Antonio Láinez Ramos-Bossini, FEA (Resident Research Fellow in Radiodiagnosis) at the HUVN; and Dr. Yolanda Megías, Registered Nurse of the HUVN Research Commission.

The day concluded with an inspiring message from Dr. Encarna González-Flores, encouraging young researchers to continue pursuing their goals in the field of health research.

Today, June 11, the HUCSC hosted the second day with an equally enriching agenda. Dr. Federico García, deputy to the scientific direction of ibs.GRANADA, and Dr. Olga Ocón, head of Research at HUCSC, inaugurated the event with a warm welcome and a presentation on the progress and opportunities of ibs.GRANADA.

Dr. Milagros Cruz Martínez, Head of Studies at HUCSC, offered a talk on the inclusion of research in the training of Resident Internal Specialists, underlining the importance of this approach for the professional evolution of young researchers.

The day's roundtable discussion, moderated by Dr. Olga Ocón, addressed "The Reality of the Health Research Career," with interventions by Dr. Victoria Contreras Bolívar, postdoctoral researcher in Endocrinology; Dr. David Sánchez Porras, postdoctoral researcher at the University of Granada (UGR); Ms. Andrea Samper, PhD candidate and EIR3 in Gynecology; and Ms. Raquel Rodríguez Blanque, midwife and professor at the University of Granada; and Ms. Elena Mellado García, midwife and PhD candidate at the University of Granada.

The event closed on a positive and motivational note, thanking all participants for their dedication and highlighting the importance of collaboration and knowledge sharing in advancing healthcare research.

These sessions not only reinforced the network of young researchers in Granada, but also underlined the commitment of ibs.GRANADA to promoting quality research and training future leaders in health.

About the ibs.GRANADA

The Instituto de Investigación Biosanitaria ibs.GRANADA, is the only center accredited by the Carlos III Health Institute (ISCIII) that develops biomedical research of excellence in Granada and one of the four accredited in Andalusia by the ISCIII.

The ibs.GRANADA is structured in four Scientific Areas: Oncology, Precision Medicine, Epidemiology and Public Health and Technology and Advanced Therapies that develop an intense research activity and lead the transfer of research results to society, which are reflected in the 1.210 publications made in scientific journals, totaling 6.668 impact factor points, as well as 19 patents applied for during 2023.

Currently, the Institute brings together 1.088 professionals and 69 multidisciplinary research groups that comprise, from the University of Granada, the Virgen de las Nieves University Hospital, the San Cecilio Clinical University Hospital, the Andalusian School of Public Health and the centers of Primary Care of Granada.

The main objectives of ibs.GRANADA are to promote biomedical, clinical and epidemiological research carried out by the different groups attached to the institute and to facilitate translational research in Granada hospitals. This research activity translates into the generation of knowledge and the transfer of scientific advances towards the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of priority health problems in Andalusia.
