The ibs.GRANADA collaborates in the first edition of the Conference on Endometriosis, held at the Virgen de las Nieves University Hospital. This day has been organized by the hospital in collaboration with the ADAEC association, which has brought together healthcare workers, researchers and women who suffer from this gynecological disease to share knowledge and experiences.
Endometriosis is a chronic disease, the cause of which is unknown, and causes chronic pelvic pain, bloating, nausea, fatigue, and sometimes depression, anxiety, and infertility. This disease occurs when tissue similar to the inner mucosa of the uterus grows on the outside of the uterus.
The conference included the participation of professionals from different fields, which has allowed a comprehensive approach to endometriosis, from public policies to improve the quality of life of women, to the role of rehabilitation in their treatment or the preservation of fertility. with endometriosis.
The head of the Obstetrics and Gynecology service, Jorge Fernández Parra, has highlighted “the importance of strengthening ties with patient associations, with conferences such as those held at the hospital, and knowing their needs to continue contributing to personalized medicine, in addition to continue researching this matter.”
In the area of citizen participation, the ADAEC delegate in Granada, Zaira Zavala, has pointed out that, with this type of meeting, those affected want “not only to make endometriosis visible but also to raise awareness about the particularities and complexities of this disease, what it implies and the uncertainties regarding the diagnosis, treatments and research, these days open the door to understanding all the implications that this disease has on the lives of all women who suffer from it."
