The Virgen de las Nieves Hospital opens a clinical trials unit that is part of the GRANADA ibs.
The Junta de Andalucía invests around 500.000 euros to create this space dedicated to research on different diseases
The Virgen de las Nieves University Hospital has launched a unit dedicated to investigating early-stage clinical trials, which belongs to the platform of clinical trials of the Institute for Biosanitary Research ibs.GRANADA, so it will be a benchmark for the provinces of Granada , Jaén and Almería, which can be used by all professionals, from any hospital in eastern Andalusia that requires it, as they belong to the institute.
The Junta de Andalucía has invested half a million euros in the remodeling of this space, with an area of 415 square meters, located on the fifth floor of the General Hospital, which has a day hospital room with five chairs, management room sanitary waste, medicine storage room, a consultation room and five individual rooms for patients requiring 24-hour clinical surveillance.
It is a matter of assisting in the best conditions the people who participate in the initial phases of the different trials, which aim to arrive at the best therapies that respond to diseases under study.
It has all the necessary health personnel to care for the participants throughout their stay, both outpatient and in hospital, in addition to two hospital pharmacists in charge of guarding, adjusting the optimal conservation and accounting for the drugs that are being applied in each trial.
The Secretary General for Research, Development and Innovation of the Ministry of Health and Families, Isaac Tunisia, has visited this new space, together with the management team of this Granada hospital, whose managing director, María Ángeles García Rescalvo, has indicated that "if Something this pandemic has taught us is the need to invest in research, and this new unit allows the start of studies and clinical trials necessary to obtain better treatments, both for prevalent and rare diseases, or new ones, such as Covid19”.
Infrastructure Investment Plan
The Virgen de las Nieves University Hospital has recently completed numerous works to improve, adapt and expand the services provided for in the Investment Plan designed by the Ministry of Health and Families that respond to infrastructure needs. In this Granada hospital, the Junta de Andalucía has invested more than 9,2 million euros, of the 14,8 for all projects in the province of Granada.
