An important part of the research carried out in this field has focused on oral lichen planus, a very common autoimmune disease that can progress to cancer in up to 3% of cases.

Miguel Ángel González Moles has published his research in Oral Oncology y Cancer, two of the most prestigious journals in their research field. González Moles, awarded multiple times, has disseminated the results of his work in 160 international publications that have resulted in more than 8.000 citations in other international journals. The now laureate has also been a member of the international group of experts that advises the World Health Organization (WHO) on the package of oral care services that will be included in the WHO compendium of universal health coverage for the year 2030. He is also part of the Working Group of the WHO Collaborative Center for the study of oral cancer. Miguel Ángel González Moles is included in the 2% of the most influential scientists in the world in all editions of the prestigious ranking published by Stanford University.
