June 3th, 2022

In these two meetings, a multidisciplinary, comprehensive and close approach to prostate cancer was carried out, aimed at both patients and professionals

The Biosanitary Research Institute of Granada (ibs.GRANADA) has organized, last Wednesday and Thursday, two Scientific Conferences on prostate cancer, one focused on the prevention and awareness of the disease, and another more focused on the comprehensive approach and current and future multidisciplinary approach to prostate cancer, on the occasion of World Prostate Cancer Day, which is celebrated on June 11.

Both were inaugurated by the territorial delegate for Health and Families in Granada, Indalecio Sánchez; the managing director of the Virgen de las Nieves University Hospital, María Ángeles García Rescalvo, the managing director of the San Cecilio Clinical University Hospital, Manuel Enrique Reyes Nadal; and the scientific director of ibs.GRANADA, Maria José Sánchez.

The one held on Wednesday, in collaboration with the Provincial Board of the AECC of Granada and entitled Conference on prevention and awareness of prostate cancer, has been a success in attendance, with more than a hundred people. It was a very accessible and informative meeting, with simple language, as it was aimed at patients and relatives, where the magnitude of prostate cancer in the province of Granada and its importance as a public health problem were highlighted, as well as important aspects in relation to the diagnosis and treatment of this disease. It was also very enriching to listen to the vital testimony of a prostate cancer patient who recounted the entire oncological process at an experiential level. With this Conference, ibs.GRANADA wants to inform patients and citizens in general, so that they can become more and better involved in decision-making in relation to the process of diagnosing and treating their disease.

On Thursday, the Conference on Comprehensive and Multidisciplinary Approach to Prostate Cancer: Challenges and Future was held at the Virgen de las Nieves University Hospital in Granada, where excellent cancer specialists and researchers discussed the epidemiological indicators of prostate cancer in Granada, as well as the latest advances in diagnostic techniques for prostate cancer with imaging techniques. In a second table, the integration of new functional imaging techniques in Prostate Cancer into clinical practice at the SSPA in Granada was discussed.
