Continuing with the Science Week, the ibs.GRANADA has held a workshop entitled “From the laboratory to medicine: Experimental methods in the search for new cardiovascular drugs”, in the Computer Room of the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Granada. The activity, directed by researchers Miguel Romero Pérez, Juan Manuel Duarte Pérez, Rosario Jiménez Moleón, Marta Toral Jiménez, Cristina González Correa and Sofía Miñano Meneres, from the group MP02-Cardiovascular Pharmacology of the ibs.GRANADA, focused on the importance of preventing and treating heart diseases.

The session began with a talk about the challenges posed by cardiovascular diseases and the need to develop new treatments to tackle them. Then, the students of the Intermediate Pharmacy Training Cycle at the CES Ramón y Cajal learned how blood pressure is measured and watched a demonstration of the methods used by scientists to study the reactivity of blood vessels to various stimuli. The activity culminated with simulations in which attendees experienced how new treatments are tested, helping them to understand the impact of scientific research on public health.
