Dr. Ana María Rivas Velasco
Dr. Ana Rivas has a degree in Pharmacy and in Food Science and Technology and a PhD in Pharmacy from the University of Granada. During her pre-doctoral stage, Dr. Rivas obtained a scholarship from the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports for University Teacher Training. Among the different activities that he developed during that period, it is worth highlighting stays abroad to improve research of three months each at Tufts University in Boston (USA) and at the Free University of Brussels (Belgium) .
Subsequently, he did a three-year postdoctoral stay at the Medical Research Council in Edinburgh working on the European project "Environmental Reproductive Health" (QLK4-CT-1999-01422) on the effect of endocrine disruptors on male reproductive health financed with the grants of improvement of doctors of the Ministry of Education and Science. During her stay at the Medical Research Council she obtained the Marie Curie contract from the European Union for the project “Role of programming genes in development of male reproductive system” (QLK4-CT-2001-51016).
Later, he returned to Spain with a contract from the Health Research Fund (FIS) to incorporate researchers into the National Health System. In 2004, he obtained the Ramón y Cajal contract. During this period, I participated in the network of excellence Chemicals as contaminants in the food chain: a NoE for research, risk assessment and education (CASCADE) (QLK4-CT-2001-51016) on risks to human health of endocrine disruptors present in food within the VI Framework Program of the European Union. Parallel to the line of research in the field of endocrine disruptors, since 2005, he has worked continuously in other lines of research in nutritional epidemiology, with numerous articles published in high-impact journals. Dr. Rivas is the author of a total of 85 articles, 72 in journals indexed on the Web of Knwoledge, with more than half published in journals of the first tertile. It presents a total of 4771 citations and an H index of 34 in google scholar and 2634 citations, and an H index of 24 in the Web of Science.
At present, she participates as Principal Investigator together with Dr. Margarita Aguilera in a European Project of the Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (EFSA), which is a Consortium where partners from prestigious centers of 5 European countries participate: Spain (IBS ), Belgium (ILVO), France (INRA), Poland (TUL) and Slovakia (UVMP). The main objective is to develop a European risk assessment platform for bisphenol A and analogues, focusing on their effects on the microbiota and their role in obesity. In addition, she is Principal Investigator of 1 FIS project and a project funded by the Mapfre Foundation. Previously, Dr. Rivas has participated in 5 European projects, 25 research projects in national and regional competitive calls, 16 research contracts, most of them in the field of endocrine disruption.
